Is BET Full of Racism These Days or Is It Just Me?

It seems like the moment BobJohnson sold BlackEntertainmentTelevision, BET, to white owned Viacom three years ago, the channel has been full of racism and racial undertones ever since.  What gives?

Recently, BET caught alot of flack with the new show, Hot Ghetto Mess.  So much so, that BET had to change the name to We Got To Do Better but the network had already pissed off too many people and, of course, it was too late.  Nix that one!

Now, fast forward 2 months and here they go again.  This time the network is catching heat for implying that blacks should 'Read A Book', the cartoon segment that first aired in July.  I take that as if the Network is trying to say that Blacks are illiterate and don't read.  Is THAT what they are saying?

The VP of animation at BET, Denys Cowan, recently responded to the criticism telling the NYTimes. "It's meant to be very satirical, and in a real way kind of mimics and mocks the current state of hip-hop and hip-hop videos."

Hmmm...I guess Mr. Cowan is referring to JayZ's 'Big Pimpin' song when UGK raps "...well read a book you illiterate son-of-a-bitch."  Yep!  I think its safe to say that that IS what BET is implying.

But what I don't understand is that if the lyrics in Hip-Hop is such a bad thing these days, then why would you use the lyrics in HH to justify the further facilitation of ignorance Mr.Cowan?

Someone pleaZ find BobJohnson?

I was gonna say something all nice and politically correct but I am annoyed, so I am just going to say what I want to.
R-E-A-D-A-B-O-O-K!
Why do we want to get all up in arms about social problems in our communities, when someone decides to put them on blast. Maybe we do need to be embarrised into taking action!
